Where Are They Now: What Our Past Competition Winners Are Doing

Violinist Jing Wang (1st, 07)
recently performed the Bazzini Round of the Goblins on the public radio program From the Top.

Violinist David McCarroll (2nd, 07)
will perform the Prokofieff Violin Concerto No. 1 with the Symphony of the Redwoods this February, and will perform with the Euroca Quintet at NEC's Jordan Hall in May.

Cellist David Requiro (1st, 06)
performed Schumann's Cello Concerto with the Santa Cruz Symphony in November of last year.

Cellist Mihai Marica (1st, 05)
will perform a program of Boccherini and Beethoven at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall along with Katie Hyun (4th, 03). Mihai is also endorsing Luis and Clark carbon fiber instruments, and won the 33rd International Music Competition in Vina del Mar in Chile with a carbon fiber cello. He will also be performing at the 13th International Musical Olympus Festival in St. Petersburg in May.

Violists David Kim (2nd, 04) and Teng Li (2nd, 01)
are both members of Chamber Music Society II at Lincoln Center, a program now in its eleventh year which discovers individuals who embody the great performance traditions while setting new standards for tomorrow. Teng is also principal with the Toronto Symphony.

Seattle Symphony Principal Cellist Joshua Roman (3rd, 04 and 03)
will leave the orchestra at the end of this season, after becoming, at 22, the youngest principal ever hired at the SSO just two years ago. Joshua just performed the Vivaldi Double Concerto at Benaroya Hall in Seattle this past December. Best wishes to a successful solo career! His webpage is www.joshuaroman.net

Violist Kirsten Johnson (1st, 97)
has been named associate principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Violist Cathy Basrak (1st, 95)
is Assistant Principal with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

Violinist Jennifer Koh (1st, 93)
maintains a very busy touring schedule. She recently performed with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Quad City Symphony, toured Israel, and will be performing with the Stockton Symphony and Rochester Symphony this spring. Her website is www.jenniferkoh.com

Violinist Vadim Gluzman (2nd, 93)
is busy as well, having performed with the Alabama Symphony, the Tonkuestler Orchestra in Austrian, the Marin Symphony, and the Spartanburg Philharmonic over the past two months; he will be featured with the Jupiter Chamber Players in New York and the Dresden Philharmonic this Spring, and with the San Francisco Symphony this May. Violinist Jennifer Frautschi (1st, 91)
recently performed the Stravinsky Concerto in D with the Fresno Philharmonic. She will be featured with the San Diego Chamber Orchestra and Rheinische Philharmonic in the Netherlands in April, and with the San Antonio Symphony in May. Her website is www.jenniferfrautschi.com

Cellist Alban Gerhardt (3rd, 89)
will perform with the National Symphony at Kennedy Center and with the Alabama Symphony in March, with the Halle Orchestra in April, with the Bremen Philharmonic in May and with the Dresden Philharmonic and Dortmund Philharmonic in June. His website is www.albangerhardt.com

Cellist Eileen Moon (4th, 88)
is Associate Principal of the New York Philharmonic.

Violist Yu Jin (2nd, 06)
is a member of the Miami String Quartet, and is also the principal of the Canton Symphony Orchestra, City Music Cleveland, and co-concertmaster of Case/CIM Baroque Orchestra.

Violinist Celeste Golden (3rd, 06)
performed with the Pacific Chamber Symphony Orchestra in October, and again with Las Colinas Symphony Orchestra in November.

Cellist Song-le Do (4th, 06)
is a member of the Laurel String Quartet, and has recently received the Presidential Distinction Award for her studies at NEC this year.

Violinist Ilana Setapen (2nd, 05)
recently performed works by Bach, Sarasate, and Debussy at the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in Palm Beach, Florida.

Violinist Kathryn Eberle (4th, 05 and 02)
was the First Prize Winner in the Hennings-Fischer Foundation Young Artists' Competition in Burbank.

Violinist Rachel Harding-Klaus (5th, 05)
is a faculty member of the Midwest Conservatory of Music in Chicago and of the Valor Summer Conservatory.

Violist Eric Nowlin (1st, 03)
is the Director of the Elastic Arts Band, formerly Project One, presenting contemporary improvised music, new music, and discussion, in New York. Eric continues to perform with the Jupiter Symphony Chamber Players as well.

Cellist Tao Ni (2nd, 03)
was selected as a semifinalist in the 2007 HAMS Competition. He recently performed at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Violinist Ayane Kozasa (5th, 03) will perform a recital later this month at Mixon Hall at CIM.

Cellist Min-Ji Kim (1st, 02)
is touring this Spring as part of Ravinia's Stearns Institute for Young Artists, and will perform in March at the Gardner Museum in Boston and in April at the New School in New York.

Violinist Adam Barnett-Hart (5th, 02 and 01)
performed as part of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in Rose Studio in November.

Cellist Jun Jensen (3rd, 00)

Violinist Christina Castelli (3rd, 98)
debuts this year with the Minnesota Orchestra and the Chicago Sinfonietta, in addition to opening the new concert seasons for the Binghamton (NY) and the Grand Junction (CO) symphonies.

Violinist Yon Joo Lee (4th, 98)
recently performed with the Sarah Lawrence Chamber Orchestra in Reisinger Hall in Yonkers.

Violinist Amy Schwartz-Moretti (2nd, 97)
is the director of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings and holds the Caroline Paul King Violin Chair at Mercer University.

Cellist Amir Eldan (4th, 97)
will perform Beethoven as part of the Bowdoin International Music Festival this June.

Cellist Lucasz Szyrner (2nd, 96)
is a member of the National Chamber Ensemble.

Cellist Alberto Parrini (3rd, 96)
is a member of the American Chamber Players.

Violinist Pavel Sporcl (2nd, 95)
just performed in Geneva and St. Gallen, Switzerland. His website is pavelsporcl.com.

Cellist Ani Aznavoorian (3rd, 95)
is the principal cello with Camerata Pacifica, a chamber ensemble based in Santa Barbara. This season Ms. Aznavoorian performed two world premieres: Ezra Laderman's Concerto No. 2 with the Colorado Springs Philharmonic under the baton of Lawrence Leighton Smith; and Lera Auerbach's 24 Preludes for Cello and Piano on stage at the Hamburg Staatsoper with the Hamburg State Ballet-choreographed by John Neumeier.

Violinist Nurit Pacht (2nd, 94)
is performing with Camerata Pacifica throughout the month of February. Her website is www.nuritpacht.com

Violinist Joanna Kurkowicz (5th, 93)
is completing a recording of Violin Concerto op. 67 and Concertino op.42 (World Premiere recording) by Mieczyslaw Weinberg (1919-1996) with the National Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra in Katowice, Poland, under conductor Gabriel Chmura. The recording will be released on Chandos Records later this year.

Violinist Lara St. John (4th, 93)
performed with the Modesto Symphony in February, will also be featured at the Tucson Winter Chamber Music Festival in March, along with the Kingston Symphony Orchestra in April. Her website is www.larastjohn.com

Violinist Lisa Lee (2nd, 92)

Cellist Alexis Pia Gerlach (2nd, 91)
is a member of Trio Solisti, celebrating its 6th Anniversary this season. They are the Ensemble-in-Residence at Adelphi University, and the founding ensemble of the Telluride Musicfest in June. Their website is www.triosolisti.com

Cellist Jian-Wen Tong (2nd, 90)
is a member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Violinist Joan Kwuon (3rd, 90)
is the co-founder and president of Artists for Breast Cancer Survival, Inc., presenting Artists for the Cure at Carnegie Hall. Her website is www.joankwuon.com

Violinist Alyssa Park (1st, 89)
is a member of Mladi Chamber Orchestra. She recently released two new CD's under the ARS label in Germany.

Cellist Wendy Warner (2nd, 89)
recently performed a Valentine Concert at the Music Institute of Chicago. She will also play with the Santa Barbara Symphony later this month, and a radio broadcast on WFMT-FM with Inna Faliks in April. Her website is www.wendywarnercello.com
